Before I forget – Dawn Embers is rallying people for a March NoWriMo project over at her blog. Go check it out, and participate. The rules are a little different than what happens in November. Every kind of writing is fair game as long as it has a goal. Revisions, portions of a novel, portions of two different novels, whatever. Go check it out and join us ^_^
I sent out six novel queries this week. After reading and re-reading notes from my cp last night, I see I still have some tweaks to make, though I’m relieved that most of what she found is already corrected in the updated version. But yeah, I jumped the gun and sent out queries before I had all of her notes anyway. Afterall, I am “done”, right?
I also got feedback from my favorite reader (I can’t believe I have a reader AND a critique partner. I feel so pro ^_^). He’s the only person reading who’s not a writer, and I say favorite because he loved it. Of course that bumps someone to the top of my list – I do have priorities 😉
I’ve gotten back two form rejections so far. I’m not too surprised, especially with the agents they’re from. Just because I did have concerns that my voice not be right for either person. But if the other four all come back without even requests for more, I’ll be a touch crushed. Especially two of them.
But I found my distraction. My thing to keep me from focusing on ‘Uriel’s Fall’ after I make these new tweaks…I have a new shiny. And this idea infects my mind and makes me grin and I love it and adore it and want to write it.
And I haven’t been this excited about a story since…oh yeah…the last time I wrote one of the novels that’s about to be merged into this one…and oh yeah, the time before when I wrote the other novel that’s about to be merged into this one.
The two stories are my NaNo 2010 and 2009 novels. I’ve known they were both missing things. And yesterday I had a brainstorm and I know what it is and how to make them one story. Yesterday morning I was almost bouncing off the walls and dying to tell someone about this new discovery, and last night I figured out the best way to describe it.
Think ‘Speed Racer’ (the movie, not the cartoon), meets ‘The Social Network’. Add a dash of William Gibson, and if you’d like, a smattering of ‘Oceans Eleven’.
Which, even for me sounds like it has the potential to get really confusing. But since it’s not a movie, I will limit my timelines to two (I’ll avoid the flash forwards of Speed Racer), and I will sigh a little that I can’t have the neon appointments.
And even though it’s taken from two existing stories, I won’t be carrying over hardly any of the content from the old pieces. I’ve got maybe 20k words between the two that I’ll keep.
So…are you in for March?
Sounds exciting! I can’t wait to read it.
I have a shiny new idea too, but I’m forcing it out of my head until I finish at least round one revisions on Tail Lights. Otherwise I’ll have 5 novels knocking around in various stages of revision. Better to focus on one… Or maybe two or three…
Thanks for mentioning my post.
Yay for shiny! I have the not quite so shiny (cause it’s dystopian) novel I’m going to write for March. Then I think I’m not going to start any new novels till I get some of the others finished. Have TT second draft almost done, then it needs editing and I need to rewrite ch1 and revise SG. Need to finish the angel/demon first draft, worldbuild for almost steampunk fantasy novel, finish writing thomas/kyle novella(or novel depending on end length) and umm… maybe work on other novels after that.
Do I sound crazy yet? lol
