**The link tool I was using ate my list. I’ve tried to recreate the list as best I could, but please let me know if your information is wrong. Also, there’s still time to sign up!
Yesterday I was sifting through my writing folder on my USB drive. I do this on occasion because I’ll remember I wrote something once, I want a snippet from it, and I need to find it. The problem is, I’m horrible with titles. I name documents whatever sounds appropriate at the time, and unless its one of my novels, the name means nothing later.
So when I start one of these searches, I start opening any document that looks close. And I’m always reminded that I have scores of files with a random name and maybe a sentence or a paragraph of notes. And I have no idea what I was thinking when I created it. Best one I’ve found so far is called “KalisDeath.doc”. the file is blank. Apparently it was a quick death.
I was lamenting this on Twitter, and Tessa said she does the same thing. And it occurred to me, I bet a lot of us do the same thing. So…blogfest time! This is my first one ever, but Tessa is awesome and has a how-to on her blog, so I’m going to learn from her example.
Here’s how it works:
- Sign up using Mr. Linky and post a reply below. You can sign up all the way through February 11 when the blogfest runs. Respond to this thread and let us know you’re joining. Promote it in your own blog, too ^_^
- Find your favorite random story idea. Find it on your hard drive, find it on a scrap of paper on your desk. Find it on your digital recorder. Wherever.
- If you don’t have such a thing, feel free to create one. Everyone needs a new story idea to whisper in the back of their head when their minds aren’t occupied.
- On February 11, post the document title if there is one, and then the idea. Once sentence or two paragraphs. Up to 500 words (more than that and it surpasses the ‘loose idea’ stage). You’re welcome to post an explanation if you have one, but it’s not neccesary.
- Include your Twitter name either in your reply below or on your own blog if you’d like. I’m @aszreal and on February 11, we’ll also do #RANDOMfest blurbs all day long. So you can tweet your shorter random story ideas or titles, or just follow along and see what everyone else has come up with.
- Go read and comment on everyone else’s random ideas the day of the blog fest
Yay! So many things come to mind I could almost sign up with every one of my blogs, but I’ll stick to just one. Looking forward to this already. Woot!
wonderful, I have you posted on my blogfest page linked to my blog. I have a lot of blogfests up, February is looking to be a fulfilling month!
The other night, my stupid muse INSISTED that I write the word “Gasoline” at the top of a clean sheet of paper. I still have no idea what that was about, so he’d better help me come up with more than that.
I’ve got tons of random story ideas. I once even wrote a story about random story ideas! So I’m in.
I’m fairly sure I have lists of these things somewhere. Usually to-do lists.
I have hundreds of these things. I’m in!
Sounds fun! I’m always scribbling random stuff. Kinda scared to root through the hard drive, but for the entertainment of the masses, I’ll do it!
Welcome, everyone ^_^ I’m really excited for this, and looking forward to what everyone posts!
LOL glad you went through with the idea! I’m SO in!!
I m in 🙂
I just entered, though I have no Twitter account. Thought I’d join in anyway just for fun. And maybe I’ll get that story going one of these days 🙂
