I got the coffee this morning. It took me three tries to get the woman to understand what I was ordering. “No, the hot coffee, not the blended. No, hot, not iced. Yes, hot.”
A brilliant reminder of why stories need more exposition than I would like. Talking to a coworker the other day, he was commenting about how some books just read so quickly. Like the way their written doesn’t encourage the reader to stop and smell the proverbial roses. Or would that be proverbally smelling the roses? Are there really any proverbs about roses? He said my forrays into exposition sounded like a good way to make that happen.
I still say ‘Prisoner of Azkaban’ was my least favorite Harry Potter book.
Right now none of that matters. I’m not padding my word count with exposition because the story is just flowing. In 1/3 the time I spent on my other story, I’ve written just as much. I’m going to make the end of Novemeber. I skipped ahead this morning just a little because there was a scene I was dying to write, and now I’ll work my way back and meet up with where I left off.
I was going to post a blurb, but I’m not liking the crickets I get whenever I post any of my writing, so I’m going to save you all the agony.
I know a lot of people are passing the 50k mark/finishing up their stories. I’m envious of each and every one of you and also proud to know such talented and dedicated authors. How’s the writing going in your corner of the world? Or, if you’re not writing, the reading, the editing, or the work? (Equal opportunity here).
I know how you feel about the crickets thing. I posted a story section for a blogfest and only the person running the blogfest commented (well, and I commented back to her comment). I don’t mind little turn out but there are blogfests where I seem to get very little to no responses and it does make one wonder especially if other entries in the same blogfest by other people get like 30 responses. But I keep posting anyways.
Sadly, I’ve been a bit distracted with personal issues so I haven’t written much at all over the past week. Feels weird after working so hard the first two weeks of nano.
