McDonalds (at least those in my area) have added a carmel mocha to their menu. My favorite fall back coffee drink is a carmel machiatto. Which is carmel and vanilla. This is the same thing, but replace the vanilla with chocolate. And OMG, it’s yummy heaven. It’s also sickly sweet and I don’t think I could get addicted to it, but it tastes pretty good this morning.
What does that have to do with writing? Absolutely nothing! ^_^ I woke up this morning and saw that our internet had been out since before midnight last night. I could tell you how I know the time window, but that would make me look obsessive.
I kind of freaked – what would I do if I couldn’t check my mail? And then started writing. This new WIP that I’m trying to finish in the next eight days. And…I’m thinking I’m going to make it. The story is flowing remarkably well for something I never outlined and only came up with a couple of months ago. I’ve never written this fresh a story successfully from scratch before, I love it.
And it seems like now that I’ve finally released whatever was holding the typing fingers back, the other ideas I needed are hanging out too. I know how (again) to fix the story I gave up on last Thursday. I might just finish it off in December, because I should be editing older pieces in December so why wouldn’t I completely change gears like that?
And then I got an incredible offer this weekend, and I don’t think the person making the offer knows how much it made my day. I do want to finish polishing off one of my older pieces. ‘Uriel’s Fall’ is coming together really nicely, and so is ‘God’s Girl Friday’, and I want to start submitting one of them toward the end of January.
And I found a crit partner to swap novels with. And this is one of those people where I didn’t say yes because it was an offer, but because she has a way of putting things that flips the lightswitch. Like fifty people can say there’s a problem with the story, and I won’t have any idea how to fix it, until she pokes it from a different angle and says “this is the ACTUAL problem”. And then…it all comes together.
Okay. Enough rambling. I only have to work through Wednesday this week. We don’t get Friday off, but 3/4 of the office will take it off as vacation anyway, so I suspect, this being a holiday week and all, that the office will be kind of quiet. And I’m looking forward to cooking, eating, and writing all day Thursday.
What are your plans for the week? If your in the US I assume it includes Thanksgiving, but that, writing, taking it easy, catching up?
Whoa. I wanna know how you knew how long it’s been out. I didn’t even think people knew HOW to do that.
Good luck with the new story — I love when they just flow!
Congrats on finding a crit partner; she sounds wonderful. ^_^
Happy Thanksgiving — I’m going to be eating and writing (hoping to finish NaNo WIP before Thanksgiving. Less than 12K to go!)
I’m so jealous you get Thanksgiving. It’s my favorite holiday because you get to eat turkey and there’s no present giving.
But we don’t do it in NZ, so Christmas has started already. First Xmas function at work on Sunday. It gets earlier every year.
Looking forward to reading your book when you’re ready. I may need 3 -4 weeks to get mine thrown back together again. I kind of left it in shreds when I started NaNo.
@Ashy – it’s not some nifty techy trick, sorry to say ~_~. It’s because I leave my email open at night. I went to bed at about 10, and I get an automated message from Monster.com every night around midnight. The automated message wasn’t in my inbox this morning, so that meant the internet went out sometime between 10 and 12.
@Kate – I’m in the same boat story-wise. Mine needs some glue and rearranging first. I can’t believe you’re already having Christmas parties. You’ve got us beat. I am making a big nummy turkey on Thursday though. Have to make sure there’s leftovers ^_^
Good luck to both of you with your NaNo! A week left, but I know you’ll both rock those seven days.
Oh that drink sounds delicious. Too bad I can’t try it any time soon. The closest McDonald’s is an hour away and though stepdad wanted me to maybe go to the city for him, the weather is a bit too iffy this week with snow. I do like the McDonald’s coffee drinks, as I’ve tried a couple, and they are much better than Burger King’s. I tried theirs and it tastes like a could, super sweet “hot chocolate” type of drink and not the coffee drink that I wanted.
This week: I need to write. Going to doctor tomorrow so maybe I’ll have less distraction over that issue. But I am cooking for thanksgiving the stuffing and the main dish. Got the grand idea to try making a turducken (turkey, duck, chicken) so have to de-bone and combine all three before cooking them together. Never done before but I’m giving it a try.
@Dawn – be careful of the snow, we’re getting it here, too. I can’t believe you live so far from a McDonalds. Then again…I think there’s only a total of 10 people actually living in that state you’re in, so I guess I shouldn’t be surprised 😉
My brother did a turducken for Thanksgiving a couple of years ago, and it turned out really good. Possibly his best experiment to date (he kind of doesn’t quite make the grade with most of the turkey recipes he takes from Food Network). So best of luck, I bet it will be awesome!
