AKA – my long-winded excuse for why I love my new phone

I got a new phone about a month ago. I’d like to use the excuse that it was a need. A requirement. I mean, the old phone was almost 5 years old. Pretty much the precursor to anything smart phone related now. But, it still worked and I don’t like talking on the phone, so why would I get a new one?

First excuse I came up with was my last job (the one I had for…2 months maybe before I found something that didn’t make me want to claw my eyes out in boredom), required me to use my own phone for work. It was the trade off for working from home. So my excuse was going to be “I need it for work.”

And then I left that job before I made the upgrade. No more excuse. I mean, I could still try and use that one, but it doesn’t work so well. But I got the phone anyway. Little baby smart phone.

I use it All. The. Time. Not when I’m sleeping. But almost. Thing is, I don’t know if I’ve made more than two hours worth of phone calls with it the entire month I’ve had it. But…love the ereader software. Great way to fall asleep reading without having to get up and turn off the light, thus negating the ‘falling asleep while reading’ aspect of things.

And the other thing I love (besides the text functionality which I don’t admit to taking advantage of unlimited texting at all. I’m not ‘that’ kind of person 😉 is the music apps.

I’ll step back a bit. My commute is my link to sanity. I drive, I either clear my mind for work at the start of the day, or clear it after work at the end of the day. I’m one of those weird people who doesn’t complain about a longer commute (though the hour-hour and a half in Atlanta did grate on me a bit). The drive is a form of meditation to me, though no, I’m not a bad driver. (No, really, one speeding ticket in 20 years and no accidents and holy hell did I just jinx myself?)

And since I’m doing all this unwinding, I don’t like to listen to people talking. That includes people on the radio. Morning DJ’s are the worst invention of modern radio, followed closely by afternoon DJ’s. Especially since I don’t care for those on the two stations I listen to. So I want music.

The bad news was, the CD player in the car we bought last Novemeber doesn’t work. And we hadn’t had the money to replace it. And then I got my phone. And Pandora. And a car charger. Best. Invention. This. Week.

Yesterday I was kind of (or really) irked because I couldn’t find a good series of songs that put me in the mood to write. The old soundtrack I had for my story doesn’t work any more. It’s too dark. And then I turned on Pandora this morning, and the first song that came up was ‘Let Me Go’ by 3 Doors Down. And I knew I had my song for my two favorite characters, and I knew I had the album to write from.
