Last night as I fell asleep, I was picturing story scenes in my head. I’m just starting to write a fight scene in my novella, and I’ve never done one like this before. I’ve written fight scenes, mostly gun fights, a sword fight or two, never anything solid, though. This is different for me. This is a fist fight between two best friends. And I have to figure out why they would both throw punches to begin with, and how they would still be friends afterward. Not immediately afterward, but within a day or so. At least…on speaking terms again.
That thought was stlil lingering this morning as I drove to work. And suddenly I knew how a lot of my story worked. I mean, I have an idea anyway, but I knew how to patch in some holes that have been bothering me. How to flesh out some of my character development that felt thin to me.
So instead of writing a long, rambling blog entry today, I am going to let my reports run in the background at work, and go get some of these ideas on paper.
And I’m still trying to decide if I’m going to do my NaNoWriMo prep here online or not…I guess maybe it will all depend on whether or not I think it’s interesting enough to substitute for real blog entries ^_^
Where do you get some of your best inspiration?
That is an interesting question and overall topic. I get my inspiration at a few different places. Often times when I’m asleep, dreaming, I get ideas for scenes and stories. If I’m stuck in a novel or short story I will sometimes take a shower or bath because somehow that helps.
As for the fight, that depends on the type of characters. Gender can affect that but even then it varies. If they tend to be more emotional then it’s a little hard to get over a fight in one day. But sometimes, when there has been tension, some people get a quick resolve when taking the fight more primal (physical). Once the fight is over then the issues was dealt with so they are able to move on fast.
