My A-Z theme for the month of April is romance and the modern, technology-driven cubicle dweller (like me).

Boardroom – the name implies a physical space, and the word brings to mind images of stuffy old men in suits worth more than my car sitting around a large table and doing a lot of harumphing as they examine charts and spreadsheets and slideshows with numbers most of us would never want to understand.

But in my experience that’s not how it works in a lot of places. As innovation and technology become more and more of a driving factor in industry, a lot of those executives get younger, the suits are replaced with slacks and button-downs, or even jeans and T-shirts, and that physical space becomes more of a concept. A table in a cafe, a golf course, or even a phone call from the car.

And the possibilities for a little fun and love transcend the stereotype of the single receptionist who acts as her boss’s Girl Friday both behind the desk and between the sheets.

That woman in her late twenties with the long blond hair, dressed in a tank-top and yoga pants, may be driving the public image of billion dollar corporations from her corner of Starbucks. That guy in his early thirties with the faded Iron Maiden T-shirt and High Tops that look like they’re only staying on thanks to an act of God may be saving his company from that same bad publicity from the front seat of his SUV.

Toss them in a boardroom together – real or virtual – and it’s possible sparks will start to fly along with their heated words.

Or maybe that’s just me. What do you think, can the boardroom turn sexy if the circumstances are right? Or is it forever doomed to its traditional image?
